Veteran UFC strawweight Angela Hill was center of attention for one of the most awkward moments of her long career prior to UFC Vegas 109 — and things didn’t get much better inside the Octagon.
The 40-year-old, known as “Overkill”, was left with her head in her hands at the official weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 109 when she handed over a rather intimate item over to the official. In a hilarious effort to make the 116-pound limit for her fight against Brazil’s Iasmin Lucindo, Hill removed her bra inserts before stepping onto the scales.
Grinning from ear-to-eat as she pulled off the gesture in front of cameras, Hill handed the pads to an official, who then fumbled the moment badly. Attempting to rest them on a microphone stand, he sent one of the inserts tumbling to the floor and accidentally launched the other several metres away across the UFC Apex stage.
Hill reacted instantly, burying her head in her hands before breaking into laughter. She regained composure, hit the target weight, and struck a pose before walking off to applause.
Of course, the moment was just a joke, as an Instagram post she co-shared with MMA Junkies read: “Angela Hill pulled the ol’ fake breast implant prank at #UFCVegas109 weigh-ins”.
Fans quickly rallied behind Hill after the clip went viral. “She was dope for doing that, scored points with me on personality,” one supporter wrote online. Another added: “She handled that with as much class as could be possible in that situation. I am now a big fan.”
A third added: “I LOVE HER SO MUCH FOR THIS. Trolling in real life hits different!”
It was a reminder of why Hill has long been considered one of the UFC’s most relatable personalities.
Unfortunately for Hill, the goodwill didn’t translate into victory. On fight night, she was outgunned by the 22-year-old Lucindo, who earned a unanimous decision win (30-27, 30-27, 29-28).
The Brazilian controlled key moments in the fight, using clinches, takedowns, and heavy hooks to blunt Hill’s output. Hill had her moments—particularly a sharp kick in round two that staggered Lucindo—but struggled to match her opponent’s power. By the third round, Lucindo secured top position and threatened to finish from mount before the horn.
The result leaves Hill with an 18-15 professional record, marking the most losses ever recorded by a woman in UFC history.
Hill first broke into the promotion through The Ultimate Fighter in 2014 and has since fought 28 times in the UFC — more than any other strawweight. Across her 33 career bouts, she’s fought the division’s elite and built a reputation for toughness and activity, even if consistency has sometimes eluded her.
Coming into UFC Vegas 109, Hill was ranked #12 at strawweight and had momentum from a February win over Ketlen Souza. But this latest defeat, coupled with the weigh-in mishap, leaves her career at something of a crossroads.
Still, if Hill proved anything in Vegas, it’s that she remains as professional and good-humoured as ever – making her one of the most beloved fighters in the company’s history.
