Eddie Hall may be one of the strongest people to ever exist, but it turns out he’s also one of the luckiest.

In a video shared to his YouTube channel, the 2017 World’s Strongest Man reveals that he recently bought a house at auction for £70,000, only to find a massive safe abandoned in the basement. What followed was a two-day mission to drag it out, crack it open, and uncover what turned out to be a small fortune inside.

Hall kicks off the video by explaining how he dabbles in property — buying run-down homes, renovating them, and selling them on for profit. But this one, he says, was different. During the viewing, he spotted something unusual: a giant safe tucked away in the basement of what he affectionately calls an “old man house.”

Smelling of “piss and biscuits, with a hint of lavender,” Hall was clearly unfazed by the state of his new investment. The safe, however, was another matter.

Even for a man who once deadlifted 500kg, the safe proved too heavy to budge with his bare hands. Instead, he had to use straps out of the car and the help of cameraman James to drag the metal behemoth out of the basement and into the open.

The next day, Hall decided there was only one way to open the safe — brute force.

Armed with sledgehammers, crowbars, pneumatic drills, and, at one point, his tank, the Strongman set to work.

But that was only the start. Inside the main safe were multiple smaller safes, each with its own layer of mystery.

When Hall finally cracked them open, he found an assortment of relics that painted a picture of the safe’s former owner. Among the finds:

  • An old stamp collection
  • Several VHS tapes
  • A pair of Homer Simpson cufflinks
  • Whoopee comic books
  • A Royal Mail 25 Years of Service lapel pin
  • A 1988 Playboy magazine
  • A few £1 notes and assorted coins
  • And, perhaps most bizarrely, a taxidermied raccoon

While the early haul was more eccentric than valuable, the real prizes were still to come.

Inside the smallest safe, Hall uncovered a bar of silver worth around £1,100, followed by three one-ounce bars of gold, valued at roughly £2,100 each.

Then came the showstopper: a Rolex Submariner watch, which Hall estimated to be worth around £7,000.

But the true wildcard find was tucked in a protective plastic case — a Magic: The Gathering Black Lotus card, one of the rarest and most sought-after items in the world of collectible trading cards.

Hall took the card to a local hobby shop, where the clerk immediately offered him £3,000 on the spot. After doing a bit of digging, Hall estimated that the total value of everything inside the safe came to just over £18,000.

“That’ll pay for the renovation,” he said, grinning from ear to ear.

With the mystery of the safe solved, Hall revealed his plans to renovate the house and flip it for around £130,000, turning his £70,000 purchase — and the unexpected windfall from the safe — into a tidy profit.

Not bad for a couple of days’ work.

The video quickly racked up views, with fans praising Hall’s mix of humour, brute strength, and genuine curiosity. “Only Eddie Hall could turn a property flip into a Strongman treasure hunt,” one commenter wrote.

From the world’s strongest man to the world’s luckiest house flipper, Eddie Hall might have just unlocked his most entertaining project yet — quite literally.
