The London Marathon is taking place on April 26, and people across the world are currently in training for it.
The professional athletes, of course, are training to try and win the thing, or to at least be competitive – but for me, the best part of the London Marathon is those thousands of everyday people who sign up to run around the capital city.
People sign up for a variety of reasons. Maybe the marathon is a goal on their fitness journey, or they want to dress up and raise money for charity.
As for Jordan Adams, he falls into the latter camp, but his story is deeply personal as he explains on his social media pages.
Jordan tragically lost his mum to dementia 10 years ago, and 12 of his relatives have also sadly passed away from the disease.
The disease has a 50% chance of being passed onto children, and for Jordan, this is unfortunately the case, as he has said he will tragically develop Frontotemporal Dementia in the future.
Instead of dwelling on this, Jordan has dedicated himself to raising as much money as he possibly can to help research the disease to hopefully help others combat it in the future.
And by the looks of things, he doesn’t do things by halves.
Jordan is running the London Marathon this year with a fridge on his back, all in aid of researching this terrible disease.
You might think that’s impressive as it is, but he’s taking it to a whole other level.
You see, straight after he completes the London Marathon, Jordan is heading over to Ireland to run a marathon in every single county, ending on May 28.
That’s 33 marathons in 33 days.
Jordan is aware of the risks this poses, and has openly admitted that he could get injured – but raising awareness of dementia is his driving force, and he is going to complete his challenge no matter what comes.
He’s already run over 50 marathons, and he’s about to add a whole lot more to his tally.
Jordan is a true inspiration to us all, and we wish him all the best moving forward with his challenge. We can’t wait to watch him over the next couple of months carrying out his incredible challenge!
