Tommy Fury might be the favourite heading into his latest crossover clash, but Rico Verhoeven believes people are seriously underestimating the man standing across the ring from him.

On June 13, Fury returns to action in one of the most bizarre and talked-about matchups on the Misfits Boxing calendar when he faces former World’s Strongest Man Eddie Hall at Manchester’s AO Arena.

The fight has already grabbed attention because of the sheer size difference between the two men.

Fury enters the bout with years of boxing experience behind him, while Hall has only competed three times across boxing and MMA combined. On paper, it looks like a straightforward night for the younger Fury brother.

But paper does not punch back.

And according to kickboxing icon and now heavyweight boxer, Rico Verhoeven, Hall is bringing far more to the table than many fans expect.

The reigning heavyweight star knows both men well. Verhoeven spent years around Team Fury during Tyson Fury’s rise through the heavyweight ranks and has also built a close friendship with Hall over the years.

That leaves him in a rare position to assess the matchup from both sides.

Speaking to DAZN during a promotional segment ahead of the event, Verhoeven made it clear this is not the kind of fight people should analyse like a traditional boxing contest.

“The breakdown I would have on the Tommy Fury vs Eddie Hall fight is that it’s entertainment. That’s exactly what this is.”

That alone says plenty about the nature of the contest.

Misfits Boxing has built its identity on spectacle, crossover appeal and unpredictable moments, and this fight might be one of the promotion’s wildest experiments yet.

There is expected to be well over 100lb separating the pair when they step on the scales, creating a genuine curiosity around what happens when a trained boxer meets one of the strongest men on the planet inside a ring.

While Fury has spent years refining technique, movement and timing, Hall possesses a level of raw physical power that few athletes in combat sports history could realistically replicate.

That is exactly why Verhoeven believes the former World’s Strongest Man should not be dismissed.

“I believe that definitely Eddie Hall is going to show you something that you do not expect,” he said.

Hall has repeatedly documented his preparation online in recent months, showing brutal conditioning sessions alongside explosive power work as he attempts to transform his immense frame into something capable of surviving six rounds.

Verhoeven insists the work ethic behind the scenes is very real.

“I know Eddie, he trains like a beast, he not only looks like a beast but he is a beast,” he said.

That reputation has followed Hall throughout his career.

Even after stepping away from professional Strongman competition, the 2017 World’s Strongest Man winner has remained a physically intimidating figure, regularly throwing himself into new challenges ranging from MMA to endurance events.

Now he steps into arguably the biggest combat sports spotlight of his career against a man who has become one of crossover boxing’s most recognisable names.

Fury enters the fight needing a convincing performance after long stretches of inactivity and continued scrutiny over his future in boxing.

Despite maintaining an unbeaten professional record, critics have regularly questioned the level of opposition he has faced, while others continue to push for bigger-profile matchups following his victory over KSI.

Facing Hall represents another sharp turn into entertainment territory rather than a traditional boxing route.

Still, the unpredictability surrounding Hall’s physicality is what has made the fight impossible for many fans to ignore.

One clean shot from someone carrying that kind of mass changes everything.

And beyond the power, Verhoeven believes Hall’s mentality could surprise people too.

He said: “He has the kindest heart, he’s one of the kindest human beings I know so he is going to show something we do not expect from him.”

That combination of brute strength and genuine likability has helped Hall become one of Britain’s most-followed sporting personalities outside mainstream competition.

Now he gets the chance to test himself under the lights against an opponent with a major experience advantage.

Whether it turns into a competitive contest or pure chaos remains to be seen.

But if Verhoeven’s warning proves accurate, Tommy Fury may be walking into a far tougher night than many are predicting.
