Eddie Hall has revealed the unlikely purchase that has become one of the biggest attractions on his hugely successful YouTube channel, admitting he owns two road-legal military tanks and occasionally uses one to collect his son from school.
The former World’s Strongest Man launched his YouTube channel in 2019, with videos initially centred around his training and daily life. But as the channel rapidly grew, Hall realised he needed to evolve his content beyond the gym.
Speaking on Fight Your Corner with Tony Bellew and Charlie Parsons, Hall explained just how quickly his online audience exploded.
“The YouTube was a really interesting one. I think I started it in the middle of 2019 and within six months, less than that, I had a million subscribers,” Hall said. “It just blew up really fast.”
In the early days, Hall’s content largely focused on the lifestyle that had made him one of the strongest men on the planet.
He said: “Just doing gym sessions, training, going on days out and just taking the p*ss. It was mainly just working out in the gym, and I think people were just keen, you know, how the f*** do you be the World’s Strongest Man? And I was just giving my advice really.”
As the channel matured, however, Hall realised there was only so much training footage people wanted to watch.
“It sort of changed,” he said. “I don’t know whether the right word is to say people got bored with that, but there’s only so much training you can watch. I’ve seen you do chest 50 hundred times now.”
That prompted Hall to completely rethink the direction of his content.
“So I sort of changed the algorithm a bit and started doing weird and wonderful things, going collabing with other people.”
Unlike many creators with large production teams, Hall revealed the operation has remained remarkably simple.
“I just hired a videographer and off we went.”
One of the biggest additions to his collection came in the form of two military tanks, a purchase that immediately caught the attention of Bellew and Parsons.
“I bought two tanks, two army tanks,” he said.
Asked whether they were simply props that suited his larger-than-life image or whether he genuinely owned them, Hall made it clear they were very real.
“Yeah, they’re road legal.”
His answer left both hosts stunned before Hall revealed perhaps the most surprising use for them.
“I pick my son up from school in them now and again.”
Hall’s YouTube channel has since become known for documenting the unusual projects and adventures that surround his life away from competitive sport, with the former World’s Strongest Man continuing to build an audience by showcasing much more than just his training.
While lifting enormous weights first made him famous, Hall believes giving fans a glimpse into his personality and embracing increasingly unconventional ideas has helped transform his channel into one of the biggest athlete-led YouTube platforms in the fitness world.
