Fitness influencer Joey Swoll has reassured his millions of followers that he is “doing much better” after revealing he was rushed to hospital with an issue involving his heart.

Swoll, whose real name is Joey Sergo, shared the update after being admitted to hospital on Saturday, October 3.

The American fitness personality has built an enormous online following, with more than eight million followers on TikTok and another five million on Instagram.

He has become particularly well known for promoting a more positive gym culture, frequently calling out videos in which people film, ridicule or criticise other gym-goers.

But his latest social media update was considerably more personal.

Posting a photograph of himself from hospital, Swoll revealed he had been there for several days after experiencing an issue with his heart.

He wrote: “I was rushed to the hospital Saturday morning for my heart. It’s been a rough few days, I’m still here, but doing much better. Please send some love and prayers.”

Swoll hasn’t revealed further details about what caused his latest hospital admission, nor has he said whether it is connected to previous problems with his heart.

The update comes after the influencer revealed in 2024 that a routine heart procedure had gone badly wrong.

Swoll said he had gone into hospital for a diagnostic angiogram that was expected to take less than an hour, only for a piece of equipment to come off during the procedure.

Recalling what happened afterwards, he said: “One day home from the cardiac ICU and I feel great but VERY sore and very beat up.

“I went in Friday for a routine diagnostic angiogram which was supposed to take 30-45 minutes. During the procedure, a piece of the tool they used fell off inside my heart causing a LOT of problems and me to crash.

“Six hours later, awake and praying for every second of it, after going in through both sides of my groin and my wrist, they were finally able to retrieve it.

“It was a MIRACLE. The doctor has NEVER seen this happen before. I am at home, healthy, doing work, feeling great but just very physically and mentally beat up. I still feel like I’m on that table looking up at that beige ceiling and bright light as I lie there helpless. Thank you everyone for all your prayers and kind words.

“It truly means the world and you’ve all put a big smile on my face.”

For now, Swoll has not provided any more information about his latest heart issue.

His update has, however, prompted well wishes across social media, including support from WWE icon and current TNA star Matt Hardy.

Most importantly, despite describing the past few days as “rough”, Swoll says his condition has improved while he remains in hospital.
