Brian Shaw, crowned World’s Strongest Man on a whopping four occasions, has an army of dedicated fans following his every move.
After winning his final ever competition and retiring from professional strongman, Shaw has revealed his next exciting challenge – a move into the world of MMA. Announcing that his first fight would take place in at the beginning of 2024, Shaw teased his new training regime on Instagram.
Going into more detail on his YouTube channel, Shaw released a video titled, ‘Becoming The Most Dangerous Man On Earth‘.
Speaking on his MMA switch, Shaw dug into the reasons and rationale behind this brave next chapter in his career: “I had no clue that I was going to be presented with an opportunity to get into MMA fighting. I thought it was something that wasn’t real and it did get my attention because there was a contract involved.
“I started to think about what I would gain from doing this. I did want to drop weight and this is something that will force me to do that. In turn, I also get to learn. I get to go back to being a beginner. It is very stimulating for me.”
If that’s not something to get Shaw fans excited, we don’t know what is.
In the video Shaw also vowed to approach MMA with the same dedication he gave to his strongman career – which is worrying for potential opponents.
“I will approach this just like I have approached anything else in my life. You put this in front of me, give me a deadline, give me an MMA match, I’m going to win. I am going to dominate. I feel as though you can put anybody in front of me and I am going to figure out a way to make this happen.”
Shaw has signed a contract where he will compete in an open weight class, meaning there is absolutely no limit on weight between the two fighters.
A mouthwatering prospect for Shaw fans, the next question is, who will he face in the ring? Only time will tell.
