Former World’s Strongest Man Eddie Hall is stepping into a new arena — this time as the face of an ambitious strongman competition show.
The 2017 WSM – nicknamed “The Beast” and famed for becoming the first human to deadlift 500kg – has been confirmed as host of Battle of the Beasts, a reality-sport series now in pre-production in Malta ahead of an October filming start.
The series will bring together ten elite strength athletes from around the globe, including reigning World’s Strongest Man Rayno Nel, three-time winner Tom Stoltman, Canadian powerhouse Mitchell Hooper, Wales’ Gavin Bilton, American strongmen Evan Singleton and Trey Mitchell, plus British veterans Terry Hollands, Mark Felix, and rising names Paddy Haynes and Flex Lewis.

Filmed in front of a live audience, the show promises a blend of traditional strongman tests with outrageous entertainment challenges — everything from sumo wrestling and belly-flop contests to eating competitions designed to push the limits of strength, stamina, and resilience. The winner will be crowned the first-ever champion of Battle of the Beasts.
For Hall, the hosting role is the latest chapter in a career that has seen him become one of the most recognisable figures in global strength sport. After claiming the World’s Strongest Man title in 2017, Hall retired from competitive strongman but reinvented himself as an entertainer, author, YouTuber, and occasional fighter — most notably stepping into the boxing ring against rival Hafthor Björnsson in 2022.
His social media presence, which combines jaw-dropping feats of strength with tongue-in-cheek antics, has made him one of the most marketable personalities in strength culture. That international appeal is exactly what producers hope will elevate Battle of the Beasts into a mainstream sports-entertainment spectacle.
The series will be directed by Roel Reiné (Halo), with backing from Visit Malta and Duelbits, an online sports betting and crypto casino brand. The production is being overseen by Camelot Films, whose recent credits include Russell Crowe’s Malta-shot film Prizefighter: The Life of Jem Belcher, which sold to Amazon Prime Video.
Reiné said: “I am excited to be working with Eddie Hall and Camelot Films on bringing Battle of the Beasts to life. We are creating an epic, cinematic sporting entertainment experience. The character profile of each contestant, combined with the intensity of the challenges and the surprises we have planned, will allow us to capture something truly unforgettable and unique.”
Camelot producer Matt Hookings added: “Battle of the Beasts will be a never-before-seen spectacle not just on the island of Malta but around the world. Eddie’s international appeal, combined with the extraordinary challenges our contestants will face, will create a show that captures the interest of everyone. Battle of the Beasts is the beginning of a new global sports entertainment phenomenon, deeply rooted in the heart of Malta.”
While distribution rights remain open, the project has already attracted significant backing through sponsorships and Malta’s film tax incentives. Producers say the show is set for release next summer.
For Hall, it’s another step in a post-strongman career defined by boundary-pushing moves. From winning the World’s Strongest Man and setting the fabled 500kg deadlift record, to reinventing himself as a media personality and combat sports competitor, he now takes on the role of ringmaster in a competition designed to test more than just brute force.
Battle of the Beasts may not crown the strongest man alive, but it will showcase the most entertaining — and Eddie Hall, as ever, will be right at the centre of the action.
