Golfer Playing Charity Match Hits First Ever Hole-In-One, Then Hits Another In The Same Round… Then Wins $500 On A Scratchcard Later That Day

Most golfers wait a lifetime for that one perfect swing — the one that drops the ball straight into the hole in a single shot. For Anton Lawrence, it took more than 40 years. But when it finally happened, it didn’t just happen once. It happened twice in the same round.

Lawrence was taking part in a charity tournament at Cobbossee Colony Golf Course when he pulled off one of the rarest feats in golf — scoring two holes-in-one during a single outing.

“It was just great. It was a fun feeling,” said Lawrence.

He’d been playing golf for over four decades without ever landing one, but on this particular Saturday, everything seemed to fall perfectly into place.

“It was hole 8. I hadn’t used my drive all day, thought it bounced in, and then we went and played hole 2, did the same thing,” he recalled. “That one I heard it hit the pin and went there, and there it is. Never had one in my life, and then I get two in the same time.”

A Twice-In-A-Lifetime Swing

The odds of making two holes-in-one in the same round are astronomically low — estimated by golf statisticians at around 1 in 67 million. But Lawrence didn’t seem fazed by the numbers.

Playing alongside his youngest son, his brother visiting from Louisiana, and his friend Mark, Lawrence said the experience was “a good time” from start to finish.

“We ended up winning the tournament, got to do it with my youngest son, my brother who was up from Louisiana, and my buddy Mark there, so it was a good time,” he said.

The group’s round began like any other — until that fateful eighth hole. Lawrence’s first ace came on Hole No. 8 after a clean drive that rolled directly into the cup. Thanks to the tournament’s shotgun format, the team wasn’t playing in traditional order, so his next stop was Hole No. 2.

There, lightning struck again. Lawrence teed off, the ball soared cleanly through the air, struck the pin, and dropped. Two holes, two perfect shots — a lifetime’s dream achieved twice in one day.

After news spread around the course, fellow players urged Lawrence to test his newfound luck beyond golf.

“You know, after everybody told me I needed to buy a lottery ticket, so I bought two scratch tickets, a Powerball ticket, and I won 500 dollars on the scratch ticket,” he said.

Though he didn’t hit the Powerball jackpot, Lawrence’s day was already unforgettable.

“We ended up winning the tournament,” he added with a grin. “It was just great.”

From a first-ever hole-in-one to a double ace and a surprise $500 lottery win, Lawrence’s September day in Augusta is one for the record books.

And for the 40-year golfer who had never seen his ball drop straight into the cup before, his two-time miracle might just be the definition of a once-in-a-lifetime — or twice-in-a-lifetime — swing.
