Ronnie Coleman is arguably the greatest bodybuilding talent to ever walk the earth. The eight-time Mr. Olympia champion ruled over the Open class for nearly a decade with unparalleled size, conditioning, and muscle fullness, setting a standard few have even come close to matching.
Now retired from competitive bodybuilding, “The King” still inspires millions — not only through his legendary training videos but through glimpses into his personal life, recovery, and the nutrition that fueled his reign at the top.
Taking to his YouTube channel, Coleman walked fans through one of his all-time favorite meals: steak and potatoes — a simple, classic combination he swears by to this day.
“Hey guys, it’s Big Ron in the kitchen again and today we are going to be cooking up one of my favorites, steak and potatoes,” Coleman said, before firing up the grill and walking fans through every step of the process.

Coleman began with his potatoes, demonstrating his no-nonsense approach to cooking.
“For my baked potatoes, all I do is wash them off real good, put them in some aluminum foil, and throw them into the oven for about an hour,” he explained.
While his potatoes were baking, Coleman moved on to his main event — the steak.
“Alright guys, my steak routine is very simple. All I do is put the steak, my ribeye steak right here, on the plate, get them seasoned up real good with a little salt,” he said. “All right, now we got these bad boys all seasoned up, now it’s time to go to the grill and cook them up.”
After the steaks are seasoned to his liking, Coleman cooks them on the grill until they’re well done — the way he’s always liked them throughout his career.
“All right guys, now that I’ve taken my steaks off the grill, now it’s time to put everything on the plate and eat them up. My steak and my potatoes are next, and now it’s time to eat,” he said. “Let’s do this!”
When the food was finished, the former Mr. Olympia didn’t hold back his trademark enthusiasm – telling viewers: “Oh yeah, that’s good eatins. Yeah, buddy! Good old steak. Steak’s always been my best meal of the day. Couldn’t wait to get to the steak.”
And it is no surprise that fans loved seeing Big Ron in the kitchen, with one person commenting: “Seeing Ronnie Coleman Cook is refreshing.”
A second added: “This just made me hungry as hell. Definitely my favorite combo. Yeah buddy !! Thank you Ronnie.”
It’s no surprise that steak and potatoes were a staple in Coleman’s diet. During his Mr. Olympia reign, the Texas native was famous for his enormous appetite and relentless work ethic. A typical day for “Big Ron” involved intense training sessions followed by massive meals loaded with protein and carbs to fuel his recovery.

Ultimately, Coleman was unseated as champion when he lost the title to his long-time rival Jay Cutler. But even in retirement, “The King” remains committed to the sport that made him a legend. He continues to share insights into his training sessions, recovery methods, and, as fans have now seen, the meals that helped him build one of the greatest physiques in bodybuilding history.
Aside from crafting masterpieces in the kitchen, Coleman continues to make his health his number one priority. After 13 back and neck surgeries, he struggles to walk without assistance. However, thanks to consistent stem cell procedures and pool rehabilitation therapy, he intends to walk unassisted within 1–2 years.
While he’s stepped away from the sport competitively, Coleman still connects with fans and younger athletes who have followed in his footsteps — proving that even decades after his Olympia reign, his influence on bodybuilding remains colossal.
And for those looking to eat like a champion, it doesn’t get much more “Ronnie Coleman” than steak and potatoes — simple, heavy, and straight to the point.
Yeah buddy. Lightweight, baby.
