There’s no shortage of opinions ahead of Eddie Hall’s clash with Tommy Fury — but when Brian Shaw speaks, people listen.
The four-time World’s Strongest Man has weighed in on the crossover fight, and while he knows exactly what Fury brings to the table, he’s backing one thing above all else: raw power.
And in Shaw’s eyes, that could be enough to flip the entire fight on its head.

“Yeah, that’s going to be crazy, man. Crazy,” Brian told BloodyElbow. “Tommy’s no joke, right? He’s going to be a tough challenge.
“We’ll see. Eddie, I think, is going to be significantly bigger. So the game plan is going to need to be right so that he doesn’t gas out and get himself into trouble.
“But it’s going to be a spectacle — Eddie always brings that. And it’s one of those things people want to watch. You want to see what’s going to happen.”
That unpredictability is exactly why this fight has captured so much attention.
On one side, you’ve got Tommy Fury — a professional boxer with experience, composure, and a clear technical edge. On the other, Eddie Hall — a 150kg powerhouse who has made it clear his entire approach is built around aggression and impact.
“When I do move, I’ve got to commit. Every attack is gonna be a bullrush,” Hall said.
It’s a strategy that doesn’t leave much room for error — but it doesn’t need to if it works.
Because as Shaw pointed out, Hall possesses something that can’t be coached.
“Eddie packs a big, big power punch for sure. I mean, I was at the UFC Performance Center with him, and he was hitting one of those punch machines — they’ve got a cube there — and it was wild, the kind of power he could generate,” Shaw said. “So it really comes down to that. If he can land that type of punch, I don’t know what’s going to happen. That’s the X factor — if he can make that happen, it opens the whole fight up.”
That “X-factor” has already been backed up in training, with Hall setting the record for the highest recorded punch on the Cube — a detail that only adds more intrigue to what happens when those punches are aimed at Fury. You can check out Eddie setting that record below:
But even with all that power, Shaw knows this isn’t straightforward.
Fury has made it clear he’s not fazed by the size difference, sticking firmly to his boxing fundamentals.
“This is not a street fight, this is boxing match rules. And I’m going to expose what I think I can,” Fury told reporters. “It’s not about the size of the dog, it’s about the size of the heart in the dog.”
Still, when it comes to making a call, Shaw didn’t sit on the fence, predicting: “Eddie, you know, we’re buddies. So, I gotta say he’s gonna land that haymaker. I gotta say that… why don’t we say round two?”
That’s the prediction — one punch, one moment, and potentially one huge upset.
The fight itself is set for June 13 in Manchester, with six two-minute rounds and 12oz gloves, a format designed to favour explosiveness over endurance — something that could play directly into Hall’s hands.
