John Fury has fired back at Eddie Hall after the former World’s Strongest Man called him out during Tommy Fury’s explosive press conference showdown earlier this month.
And in typical John Fury fashion, the response was anything but subtle.
Speaking during Tommy Fury’s training camp, Tyson Fury’s father dismissed Hall’s “Beast” nickname before declaring: “He’s on about being ‘The Beast’ – I’m the real beast! Tried and tested, I’ve been fighting all my life.”
The comments come after tensions between the Fury family and Hall spiralled during the chaotic launch press conference for Hall’s upcoming boxing match against Tommy Fury on June 13.
What initially started as standard fight promotion quickly descended into personal insults, threats and repeated references to John Fury — despite him not even being present at the event. Hall openly mocked Fury’s absence from the press conference, branding him a “big bully of a man” who goes around “headbutting midgets”.
At one stage, the former strongman exploded: “Where the f**k’s your dad? He’s stirred the pot and the p***y hasn’t come today.”
Tommy warned Hall he would regret those comments, but Hall refused to back down and even suggested he’d be willing to fight John Fury outside the ring after the event. “I don’t think John will jeopardise anything, come to that fight. But look, when all is said and done, if John wants to go out on the street and have it out, I’m more than game,” Hall said.
Now, John Fury has finally given his own response — and he made it crystal clear he isn’t remotely concerned by Hall’s threats.
“I ain’t bothered about Eddie Hall,” John said, adding that the 2017 World’s Strongest Man will retire from boxing for good after stepping in the ring with Tommy. “When he boxes Tommy, Eddie Hall won’t want to fight no more,” John said. “That’ll be it.”
Fury also dismissed Hall’s combat credentials entirely and insisted boxing is a completely different world to strength sports.
“Stick to lifting weights,” he added.
Despite the insults, Fury did offer Hall some praise for becoming the first man in history to deadlift 500kg — an achievement many still consider one of the greatest feats of strength ever performed.
But even that compliment quickly turned into another warning.
“[Eddie] can fight Roman [Fury] next […] if he’s still in one piece,” John said. “He says he wants to fight the whole family. I can’t put him in there with Tyson because he’d get comatosed.”
The feud between Hall and the Fury family appears to have intensified after Tommy admitted he only accepted the fight because of his father’s involvement.
“I’m here now, I’m ready to fight, and I’m only here because of my dad,” Tommy said during the press conference. Eddie had previously confirmed that the fight between the two of them only came about because he was angling for an MMA bout against Tyson Fury – with that conversation swiftly turning into an argument between Eddie and John.
The undefeated Tommy also made it clear that defending the Fury family name remains a major motivation. “All I’m gonna say is that my dad did 12 years in jail for protecting the family name, so I’m not gonna overlook any challenge that’s in front of me – big, small, whatever. I’m in the ring, and I’m going to be fighting,” Tommy added.
John Fury later revealed his side of how the fight came together and claimed he directly confronted Hall over his comments.
“‘Don’t insult my son, mate, because when I see you, I’ll punch you straight in the mouth. I’ll punch you straight in the mouth’, I said. Don’t worry about that,” John said. “You know, and that’s it. ‘I can do this, and I can do this,’ You can do f*** all. ‘You can’t do nothing,’ I said, my old pal.”
He continued: “You know, when you talk about world champions, come on, man. It’s not an MMA fight, is it? It’s not a kickboxing job. You’re boxing.”
Hall, meanwhile, has repeatedly insisted he respects Tommy Fury’s boxing ability and experience despite promising to knock him out. The former strongman admitted Fury is technically levels above him, but believes one clean punch could completely change the fight.
Tommy has already predicted an “emphatic KO” and warned Hall that “you can’t put muscles on your chin”.
But after weeks of increasingly personal back-and-forth between Hall and the Fury family, it’s becoming clear this fight is no longer just about Tommy Fury versus Eddie Hall.
At this point, it feels like Eddie Hall has declared war on the entire Fury family.
