The long-running war of words between Carl Froch and John Fury may finally be edging towards something far more serious.
After months of insults, callouts and public back-and-forth, Froch has now thrown the door wide open for a showdown with Tyson Fury’s father — and this time, it sounds like there could be real movement.
The former super-middleweight world champion has made it crystal clear: if John Fury wants it, the contract is there.
The rivalry has been simmering for months, with Fury repeatedly demanding a fight against Froch, insisting he wants to settle things properly. At one point, Fury admitted he had turned down a £1 million offer after pushing for more than double that figure to step into the ring with the Nottingham icon.
But any thoughts of the feud cooling off were quickly dismissed last weekend.
Fresh off seeing his son Tommy Fury outpoint former World’s Strongest Man Eddie Hall, John Fury wasted no time firing another explosive shot at Froch.
“The coward Carl Froch, the worm Carl Froch. Him with the bum hole like a rabbit’s nose twitching. Where was he tonight? From an old man. Running scared from an old man. Terrible,” he said.
“He’s an embarrassment to Nottingham. Carl, the worm, Froch. You know them championship belts he won, don’t you? He wants to give them to somebody with a pair of nuts, because let me tell you, he’s no street fighter. I’m a street fighter. It took 20 men to hold me there tonight. There’s no 12 stone man, or 13 stone man, going to do any good with me.”
It was vintage John Fury, and Froch has now answered in an equally direct fashion.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the retired boxing star insisted he’s more than ready to take the fight and believes Fury has run out of excuses.
“I’m ready. I’m ready to fight. I ain’t got a problem with putting a bully in his place,” Froch said.
That alone would have been enough to reignite the feud, but Froch went even further by revealing discussions have already taken place behind the scenes.
“But it got serious because he asked Kalle [Sauerland] and Kalle said, ‘Listen, I can do the fight. No problem.’ He hasn’t priced himself out; not yet anyway, and it looks like he’s being serious. So, there’s a chance that this fight might actually get made if John doesn’t vanish like he did last time.”
That line will raise eyebrows.
For all the noise, this appears to be the clearest sign yet that both camps could actually be inching toward an agreement.
Froch, though, wasn’t finished.
He doubled down with a furious message aimed directly at Fury, accusing him of being nothing more than a bully and challenging him to stop talking and commit.
“So, John, listen up and listen closely because I want you to get this into your thick f***ing skull,” he said. “This has been going on for too long now. I saw you punching a perspect picture on the wall the other day. Walls don’t hit back. You’re a f***ing bully. You started on Carl Frampton, started on Steve Bunce, and you headbutted the smallest man in the room at the Usyk press conference. Listen, I’m ready to fight. You’ve called it on. I’m answering. I’m ready for you. Sign the f***ing contract or shut the f*** up.”
It’s the strongest response Froch has delivered yet — and arguably the first time this feud has felt genuinely close to becoming reality.
Whether it happens is another question.
Negotiations have fallen apart before, money has already proven to be a sticking point, and John Fury’s unpredictability has only added to the chaos.
But one thing is now certain: Carl Froch isn’t backing away.
And if John Fury really wants the fight he’s been demanding for months, the next move is his.
