Most people struggle to open a stubborn jar, but one woman has taken grip strength to a completely different level by crushing frying pans with her bare hands.
Romanian strongwoman Mihaela-Andreea Brînzoiu has demonstrated an extraordinary ability that would leave most gym-goers questioning their strength, per Guinness World Records.
Rather than lifting enormous barbells or pulling heavy vehicles, Brînzoiu specialises in something considerably more unusual.
She bends frying pans into tightly rolled pieces of metal using nothing but her hands.
And incredibly, she managed to roll up 10 of them in just 60 seconds to equal a Guinness World Record.
The remarkable achievement took place on 21 February 2023, during an appearance on the Italian television programme Lo Show Dei Record in Milan.
Brînzoiu went head-to-head with Slovakian competitor Jana Vašková, with both women managing to roll 10 frying pans within the allotted minute.
Their performances surpassed the previous record of seven, making them joint holders of the Guinness World Records title for the most frying pans rolled in one minute by a woman.
That’s one completely mangled frying pan every six seconds.
And while most people associate strength with lifting heavy weights in the gym, this particular challenge requires an entirely different kind of physical power.
Competitors must use their hands to bend and roll the metal, demonstrating the sort of crushing grip strength that even experienced weightlifters might find difficult to replicate.
Brînzoiu’s extraordinary talent was subsequently showcased in an episode of Guinness World Records’ The One Thing, a series featuring record holders demonstrating their unusual abilities.
During the episode, the Romanian strongwoman challenged Guinness World Records presenter Alan Pixsley to test his own strength.
She also demonstrated her technique, giving him an insight into how she manages to manipulate frying pans with her hands.
It’s certainly not the sort of skill most people would expect to learn during a workout.
However, Brînzoiu isn’t the only person to have turned destroying kitchen equipment into a competitive achievement.
German strongwoman Kathleen Krausse previously held the women’s record after successfully rolling seven frying pans in one minute during a television appearance in China in 2015.
Before Krausse, American performer Linsey Lindberg, also known as Mama Lou, had achieved six in 2014.
Meanwhile, the men’s record stands at an astonishing 14 frying pans in one minute, achieved by American Steven Weiner in Macau on 10 January 2015.
Weiner actually broke his own previous record of 12 during the attempt.
Although the challenge might look straightforward when performed by experienced strongmen and strongwomen, bending metal into a compact roll requires exceptional hand and forearm strength.
For Brînzoiu, however, the ability has earned her a place in the Guinness World Records history books.
And it might make you think twice the next time someone asks you to help out with the washing-up.
