If there were any doubts about the tone of this fight heading into June 13, they have been completely erased.
Eddie Hall and Tommy Fury came face-to-face at their official press conference at 5:00PM on April 7 — and what followed was less a promotion, more a full-blown verbal war. And while he wasn’t there in person, John Fury – Tommy’s dad and the “instigator” of this fight – was a big topic of conversation.

With both men seated on stage, the gloves were off long before fight night, as family, pride, and past words dominated the narrative. This wasn’t just promotion. It was personal. And with John Fury’s name looming over almost every exchange, both fighters traded shots that made it clear this fight has moved well beyond sport.
Here’s how it all unfolded:
- Eddie Hall admitted he was “flabbergasted” that Tommy was the one offered for a boxing match, insisting he was initially chasing something “different” — but added that if John Fury wants to put Tommy forward as a “sacrificial lamb”, then so be it.
- While not directly confirming it, Fury strongly hinted that he had ignored calls from Hall, telling the 2017 World’s Strongest Man: “Well, I’m here now, I’m ready to fight, and I’m only here because of my dad.”
- Fury made his feelings clear early on by knocking a Prime bottle off the table, saying: “First of all, f*** that off” — a not-so-subtle dig at KSI and Logan Paul.
- Doubling down on his motivation, Fury said he is stepping in to defend the family name: “All I’m gonna say is that my dad did 12 years in jail for protecting the family name, so I’m not gonna overlook any challenge that’s in front of me – big, small, whatever. I’m in the ring and I’m going to be fighting.”
- John Fury’s absence was blamed on illness, but Hall wasn’t buying it — branding him a “big bully of a man” who goes around “headbutting midgets”.
- Fury quickly shut that down, responding: “He’ll be here on fight week.”
- Fury promised an “emphatic KO”, insisting Hall “can’t put muscles on his chin”, while Hall dismissed that as nothing more than a “fighter’s chance”.
- Despite the tension, Hall acknowledged Fury’s pedigree, praising his technical ability — but warned he’ll be waiting for the perfect opening to land a “big shot”, whether that comes in round one or six.
- Fury took another swipe at KSI, mocking him for “being a judge somewhere now, judging people singing”, before adding: “He’s nothing to do with this conversation. He couldn’t be a fighting man as long as he lives… decided to flap about in the ring against me. So he’s not even worth mentioning.”
- Addressing the size gap, Fury admitted the difference is real but insisted he’s grown up around heavyweights like Tyson Fury, making it nothing new.
- Fury also opened up on how things have changed between the pair: “It is very different. …A lot can change in 24 hours. You know, me and Eddie have done YouTube videos together and we’ve got on like a house on fire. But there are some things you can’t overlook. I know my dad, he’s a high tempers 99% of the time, but that’s one thing I can’t let slip. You know, you can’t talk to my dad – shout and scream at my dad, and not have to pay for it. The way we live, you’ve got to have a fight.”
- Hall reignited the tension by calling out John directly: “Where the f***’s your dad? He’s stirred the pot and the p***y hasn’t come today.” Fury responded that Hall would regret saying “any of that”, reiterating his dad’s presence on fight week.
- Hall admitted he’s struggled to find fights that “make sense”, but believes this one does: “A Fury versus the World’s Strongest Man makes sense, and – who knows – once I’m done with Tommy I might climb that ladder” — again hinting at a future clash with Tyson Fury.
- When Hall claimed he has “nothing to lose” and Fury has “everything to lose”, Fury fired back: “Do you know why I haven’t got everything to lose? Because I am so happy and so comfortable in my life. I have said it before, I’m not boxing for money – don’t need it, not interested, happy with what I’ve got. I’m here because I love to fight, I love a challenge, and it’s going to be one hell of a headline.”
- Fury brushed off questions about the six-round, two-minute format, insisting those decisions aren’t his concern — his job is simply to train, show up, and win.
- Asked about John Fury potentially causing issues during fight week, Hall said: “I don’t think John will jeopardise anything [to do with this] fight. But, look, if John – when all this is said and done – if John wants to go out into the street and have this out, I’m more than game.” He then added: “I’ve got big respect for Tommy, he’s done well in the game – 11 and 0. He’s building his career and he’s doing it the right way. It’s just a shame about his f***ing p***y dad.”
- Fury responded by saying he was “going to say a prayer” for Hall in case John “steams straight into [him]”, with Hall firing back by calling John an “absolute idiot”.
- Hall later admitted he’s not truly interested in fighting John, but again pointed toward a potential MMA clash with Tyson Fury.
- Looking beyond the fight, Fury admitted victory over Hall wouldn’t elevate his career: “Where does it really put me? Nowhere, to be honest with you. At the end of the day, we’re going to have a fight and I’m going to win, but what are people going to say? I’ve not beat a world champion […] I can go wherever I want to go.”
- Fury also reignited his rivalry with Jake Paul, saying: “We’ll see if Jake Paul’s phone is switched off, or if he’s going to grow some balls and get this second fight on.”
- Hall ruled out a rematch with Hafthor Björnsson, stating: “As far as I’m concerned, that is not going to happen. I’ve got my eyes set on the next 18 months/two years on just having a lot of fights, fighting every three or four months, and just do some damage. I want to go out on a high, and hense why I’m chasing the Tyson Furys of the world.”
- And finally, Hall showed respect when asked about the optics of beating Fury: “You’ve got a 100kg guy going against a 150kg guy, how could you mock that? If I beat him on points or knocked him out. You can’t mock that man, he’s got balls of steel.”
If this was the press conference, fight week might be absolute carnage.
