Just when you thought Brian Shaw’s post-strongman career couldn’t get any more unpredictable, the four-time World’s Strongest Man has taken on a jaw-dropping new challenge — wrestling a lion. And yes, it was all part of a massive stunt orchestrated by none other than YouTube megastar MrBeast.

In a video that’s already sending shockwaves across social media, Shaw appears in one of MrBeast’s latest high-budget productions, titled “Can You Survive the Wild?”. The premise? A survival-style competition where celebrities face off against nature’s fiercest challenges — and in Shaw’s case, that meant stepping into a controlled enclosure with a full-grown African lion.

“This was the craziest thing I’ve ever done,” Shaw says in the video, just moments before donning protective gear and walking into the enclosure. “But when MrBeast calls, you know it’s going to be epic.”

The encounter, which was supervised by trained animal handlers and shot under strict safety protocols, wasn’t about brute force — but it did showcase Shaw’s unmatched composure, athleticism, and respect for wild animals. While the segment was more theatrical than combative, the footage of Shaw cautiously grappling with the lion (under handler supervision) instantly became the centerpiece of the episode.

MrBeast, known for his outrageous stunts and philanthropic giveaways, teased the scene in advance on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “Who else can say they’ve seen the strongest man on earth wrestle a lion? Brian Shaw is on another level.”

The video also featured other extreme tests, from alligator standoffs to endurance challenges in blistering heat. But none captured viewers’ imaginations quite like Shaw’s lion face-off, which has been clipped, memed, and replayed millions of times since its release.

While some fans raised eyebrows at the spectacle, animal experts involved in the production confirmed that the lion used in the scene was part of a sanctuary’s enrichment program and that no harm came to the animal or to Shaw himself.

Shaw, who’s been exploring life beyond strongman through arm wrestling, MMA training, and content creation, says this experience tops the lot. “I’ve pulled planes, lifted Atlas stones, and gone toe-to-toe with the strongest men on earth,” he said post-filming. “But nothing compares to looking a lion in the eyes and holding your ground.”

With this latest feat, Shaw continues to redefine what strength looks like — not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. It’s not every day you see a strongman take on a lion and live to tell the tale.

Brian Shaw may be retired from strongman competition, but clearly, the legend is just getting started.
