Sometimes you see things in the gym that just leave you in awe.
Occasionally, you’ll be sitting on a bench between sets, look around the room, and someone will be doing something either very impressive or very stupid.
Sometimes I watch people warm up with my personal best weight – but I have to remind myself that we’re all on our own journey and not to compare myself to others.
What we can do, however, is be inspired by others.
And sometimes, you’ll be scrolling social media in your downtime, and inspiration will strike when you least expect it.
Anthony Franco is an 85-year-old power lifter, and let me tell you, he is seriously impressive.
He hasn’t posted a reel on Instagram since December 2023, but he is back with a bang, showing that at 85 years old, he can still move a lot of weight.
… It should come as no surprise that he has three world records to his name, either.
Anthony casually posted a video that he filmed himself, showing that he can bench 315lbs all while looking incredible for his age.
But that’s not the only thing – because most of us need some good music or to really get into the zone when we’re moving some serious weight.
Not Anthony.
After setting the camera up and casually strolling to the bench, he didn’t wait for the right song or get himself into the zone. Instead, he benched 315lbs while listening to an advert on the radio.
… And here I am blaming the gym music for my bad days.
Viewers were quick to notice, with one person writing: “Gramps hits 315 with a commercial playing on the radio. Absolutely diabolical.”
A second said: “Holy Sh*t. He’s my hero. Seriously! No spotter. Unreal. No motivating music. Magnesium and Lysol commercials playing in the background.”
A third person wrote: “At 85 years old that’s still more than most 18-25 year olds can do now. This is insanely impressive.”
While a fourth person said: “Didn’t even wait for the pr music to start playing. Legendary.”
Anthony has shown us that no matter our age, we can still hit incredible heights!
