Eddie Hall has shared plenty of wild stories over the years, but this one might top the lot.
Appearing on the SHAWSTRENGTH PODCAST alongside fellow Strongman Robert Oberst, Hall opened up about one of the most unexpected family revelations he’s ever had — and it all came out over a barbecue dinner.
The former World’s Strongest Man explained that the story came to light when he and Oberst were having dinner with Hall’s family, in what started as a perfectly normal evening.
Hall said: “So this is the true story of how I was conceived. When we went and had dinner with my family, my mum dropped this.”
Oberst immediately jumped in, laughing as he recalled the moment.
“This was my favourite part of the show right here,” he said.
According to Hall, the evening had been calm and relaxed, with everyone enjoying a barbecue together, before the conversation took a sharp turn into deeply personal territory.
“We all go around to my house, and we’re having dinner with my family. We’re having a lovely barbecue, it was gorgeous,” Hall said.
But then someone — Hall believes it may have been Oberst — asked the question that changed everything.
He said: “Someone must have asked the question, I think it was you taking the p*ss, like where was he conceived?”
That’s when Hall’s mum decided to tell the full story.
And Hall admitted he had absolutely no idea what was coming.
“She goes on to tell me how I was conceived,” he said.
The explanation, as Hall tells it, was as bizarre as it was hilarious.
His mum had already had two sons and, by her own admission, was content with that. She was taking contraception and carrying on with life as normal — until one freak accident changed everything.
Hall explained: “My mum had already had two boys and was apparently very happy with that, so she’s on the pill, going about her life.”
Then came the moment that unknowingly altered the course of Hall’s existence.
“Then my mum stubs her toe and gets a toe infection,” he said.
A trip to the doctor followed, where she was prescribed antibiotics for the infection.
But there was one critical piece of information she wasn’t given.
“She goes to the doctors to get some tablets, but what they didn’t tell her is these antibiotics don’t mix with the contraception,” Hall said.
That combination proved decisive.
“So while she was on the antibiotics, the contraceptive pill didn’t work.”
And that, Hall says, is how one of the strongest men in history ended up being born.
“What happened? I was conceived,” Hall said.
Hall could only laugh as he summed it up in the most Eddie Hall way possible: “So I was literally the result of a stubbed toe. Toe infection. Mistake.”
The most surprising part of it all wasn’t the story itself — it was the fact Hall was hearing it for the very first time, right there at the dinner table.
“And genuinely, that was the first time I heard that,” he said.
For Oberst, that revelation was the moment that made the entire evening unforgettable.
“That’s the best part,” Oberst said. “That’s the best part.”
