Eddie Hall has shared the screen with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, but there was one actor who left a lasting impression for all the right reasons.
The 2017 World’s Strongest Man made his big-screen debut in The Expendables 4, starring alongside action legends including Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture.
Speaking on The Terry Stone Connection Podcast, Hall reflected on his experience working in Hollywood and revealed which star surprised him the most once the cameras stopped rolling.
Hall explained that landing a role in the blockbuster came about in unexpected fashion.
Rather than going through years of auditions, he revealed he simply contacted his agent and asked to be put forward for the film after hearing it was being made.
That opportunity ultimately saw him cast alongside some of the biggest names in action cinema and marked the beginning of his acting career.
Despite being surrounded by Hollywood royalty on set, it was Jason Statham who stood out the most.
Hall admitted he wasn’t sure what to expect before filming began but quickly realised the British action star was nothing like the larger-than-life characters he plays on screen.
Reflecting on his experience, Hall said: “Jason Statham surprised me the most. He’s just a proper bloke.”
Hall explained that Statham went out of his way to make everyone on set feel welcome, regardless of their experience or profile.
“He’d sit and have a coffee with anyone. He’d talk to everyone. There was no ego whatsoever,” he said.
The former World’s Strongest Man said the atmosphere on set helped settle his nerves as he adjusted to an entirely new profession.
Having spent years competing in front of thousands of fans, Hall admitted stepping onto a film set was a completely different challenge, but the support of the cast made the transition far easier.
He also spoke positively about working alongside Sylvester Stallone, describing the cast as approachable and welcoming throughout the production.
Since making his Hollywood debut, Hall has continued to expand his career beyond strength sports through television, film and social media, where he has built a huge audience with his larger-than-life personality.
But despite sharing scenes with some of the most recognisable action stars in the world, it was Statham’s down-to-earth attitude that left the biggest impression.
For Hall, the experience proved that one of Britain’s biggest Hollywood exports hadn’t forgotten his roots, with the former strongman saying the actor’s humility and willingness to chat with everyone on set made him the standout personality during filming.
